Last night at the White House, a conservative Catholic woman and a conservative Catholic black man broke the “America is bad” narrative.
This narrative, part of the Cancel America culture, would tell Amy Coney Barrett: You can’t succeed as a woman in America. You can’t have children if you want a successful legal career. You certainly can’t achieve any of your goals if you have to take care of a special needs child. Your religious beliefs disqualify you from holding public office.
Cancel America would also tell Supreme Court Justice Clarence Thomas, who swore in Justice Barrett: You can’t, either.
These beliefs are wrong. Barrett’s Supreme Court confirmation and installation have encapsulated everything that is good, and great, about America. A mother of seven, a devout Catholic, a parent of child with Down Syndrome, and a highly regarded “brilliant legal scholar” put her hand on the Bible and swore to “faithfully discharge the duties of the office” of Supreme Court Justice. That Bible was held by a black man who once refused to be canceled by then-Senator Joe Biden’s “high tech lynching” during his own confirmation to the nation’s highest court.
The mere existences of U.S. Supreme Court Justice Barrett and U.S. Supreme Court Justice Thomas unravel Cancel America’s most basic premise—that America is a place where you are a victim because of your race, your sex, and your religion. Perhaps that’s why they’ve tried to cancel them, such as in 2017 when Senate Judiciary Committee Ranking Member Dianne Feinstein suggested Barrett’s Catholic faith disqualified her from sitting on the Court of Appeals. Feinstein said, “The dogma lives loudly within in you, and that is a concern.”
Now, leftist groups NARAL Pro-Choice America and Demand Justice are calling for Senator Feinstein’s replacement for failing to cancel Justice Barrett’s confirmation to the Supreme Court. Feinstein’s sin, according to NARAL President Ilyse Hogue, is her role in lending “an appearance of credibility to the proceedings.”
As with Feinstein, Justice Thomas became the target of Cancel America for failing to uphold the left’s ever-shifting dogma. We at AmericaIsGood.us prefer to stick to a consistent set of race-blind, sex-neutral principles – individual liberty and equality of opportunity promised in the U.S. Constitution.
