The recent confirmation of Justice Amy Coney Barrett to the United States Supreme Court could soon have a defining impact on how law’s protect America’s unborn.
In September, the Court postponed the decision to consider review of Mississippi law banning abortion after 15 weeks due to the death of Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg. However, the justices now plan to discuss hearing the case during an upcoming conference.
The legal definition of fetal viability is the central question of the Dobbs v. Jackson Women’s Health Organization case. Since Roe v. Wade, the courts have largely held that states cannot ban abortion pre-viability, which Planned Parenthood v. Casey established at 24 weeks.
Not surprisingly, leftist organizations like the Center for Reproductive Rights and NARAL Pro-Choice America are determined to fight any legislation that restricts abortion because fealty to abortion is a central tenet of Cancel America. However, the left’s dogmatic defense of abortion flies in the face of basic human dignity and science.
Science shows without a doubt that life begins at conception. Far from being a “clump of cells,” the human embryo displays all four empirical attributes of life. Furthermore, science also provides evidence that babies may feel pain within 12 weeks of conception.
But, science isn’t the priority for abortion activists on the left. Their religion is the cancelling of America’s children—especially the most vulnerable. The Cancel America movement insists that police target young black males, but declines to point out the direct targeting of black communities by abortion providers.
To paraphrase Senator Dianne Feinstein’s 2017 smear of Judge Amy Coney Barrett: the abortion “dogma” lives loudly within Cancel America, and that is a concern.
